The Nun

In 18th-century France, young Suzanne is forced against her will to take vows as a nun. Three mothers superior treat her in radically different ways, ranging from maternal concern, to sadistic persecution, to lesbian desire. Suzanne bonds with the compassionate Mother Superior, Mme de Moni, but ultimately faces mistreatment and isolation under the cruel Sister Sainte-Christine. With the help of a monk who shares her experiences of being forced into religion, Suzanne sends a letter to a lawyer and flees convent life, eventually ending in tragic despair after joining a brothel and realizing it is not a refuge from her past.
