Welcome to the Dollhouse

Twelve-year-old Dawn Wiener is a shy and unpopular seventh-grader living in a middle-class suburban community in New Jersey, struggling to cope with her inattentive parents, bullies at school, and unrequited crush on the charming and charismatic aspiring rock musician Steve Rodgers. Her life is marked by mockery, ugliness, and dark comedy as she navigates the challenges of junior high school and sibling relationships. With its biting black comedy and relatable portrayal of a pre-teen outcast, "Welcome to the Dollhouse" is a poignant coming-of-age story that launched the careers of writer-director Todd Solondz and actress Heather Matarazzo.
