Tag, a clever fox able to elude the dogs and hunters who pursue him, is rescued from the woods by huntsman Asher Smith (Eric Porter), who raises him alongside a litter of hound puppies, including Merlin (Jeremy Kemp). The young fox becomes an unlikely celebrity in the countryside, leading many a "merry chase" for its human pursuers.
