In 1970, British director Jonathan Miller brought to life the witty and romantic novel by Kingsley Amis, "Take a Girl Like You", starring Hayley Mills as young Jenny, a Northern teacher who heads to the South of England to start a new career. There, she catches the eye of Patrick, one of the local "lads", played by Oliver Reed, who finds himself entangled in a volatile relationship with Jenny as he tries to change her mind about sex. As they navigate their complicated feelings for each other, the film's lighthearted tone is tempered by its exploration of social class and politics, set against a backdrop of 1960s British society.
