Oh Lucy!

Setsuko Kawashima (Shinobu Terajima), a lonely office worker in Tokyo, develops a crush on her English teacher John after he disappears and decides to follow him to Los Angeles. She meets Mika, her niece, who signs up for English classes but can no longer afford them; Setsuko buys Mika out and continues attending classes, befriending Tom, the classmate who goes by the name Takeshi Komori. When Mika reveals she's moved to Los Angeles, Setsuko impulsively decides to follow her, with Ayako, her sister, in tow. In Los Angeles, they discover John is living alone and claims Mika has left him; however, when Ayako finds a postcard from Mika, the sisters rent a car and drive to the motel where Mika was last heard from.
