The Silence

Two sisters, Ester and Anna, travel together through a Central European country on the brink of war, their strained relationship exacerbated by a basic inability to communicate. As they check into a nearly empty hotel, their differences are laid bare: Ester, a sickly intellectual, is torn between her intellectual pursuits and her own desires; Anna, a sensual woman with a young son, navigates a world of desire and isolation. The film's tense atmosphere builds as the sisters' relationships with each other, themselves, and the people around them unravel, culminating in a heart-wrenching confrontation that leaves only silence.
