The Associate

Laurel Ayres (Whoopi Goldberg), a smart and single woman, quits her job at a Wall Street investment firm due to sexism and creates a fictional male partner, Robert Cutty, to legitimize herself in the male-dominated world of finance. With the help of her intelligent secretary Sally Dugan (Dianne Wiest) and a disguise crafted by her best friend, Laurel becomes a successful independent stockbroker while competing firms and tabloid journalists try to expose the "real" Robert Cutty.
