In rural Denmark during the autumn of 1925, the devout widower Morten Borgen patriarchally navigates his family's disparate religious beliefs when his eldest son Mikkel, middle child Johannes proclaims himself to be Jesus Christ, and youngest son Anders confesses his love for Anne Petersen.
