In this poignant and contemplative drama, François Truffaut directs and stars as Julien Davenne, a war veteran struggling to cope with the loss of his wife eleven years prior. When a fire destroys the memorial room dedicated to her memory, Davenne transforms a ruined chapel into an altar of remembrance for himself and those he's cherished in life. As he delves deeper into the past, he finds solace in the company of Cécilia, a young woman who shares his affinity for honoring the dead, but ultimately leads him down a path of self-sacrifice.
