After resigning from Nova Robotics, Benjamin Jahrvi starts up his own business, peddling sophisticated toy robots on street corners. One robot wanders into Sandy Banatoni's office, where she orders 1,000 of them from Ben. However, con artist Fred Ritter smooth-talks his way into becoming Ben's partner in the deal, and later acquires funding from a loan shark. Ben hires workers and moves into a warehouse, unaware it's the base of operations for thieves tunneling into a bank vault to steal jewels known as the Vanderveer Collection.
