Major Brand (Basil Rathbone) leads the 39th Squadron of the Royal Flying Corps in France during World War I, as a series of young pilots are lost or severely injured on dawn patrols. Captain Courtney (Errol Flynn), Brand's rival and friend, rises to command after Scotty Scott (David Niven) is killed saving Hollister, and leads a daring mission against German aircraft.
