On a cold winter's day, Major Sergei Sobolev (Denis Shvedov) is driving to the hospital where his wife is about to give birth when he runs down a boy on a passage walk, resulting in the child's death. To avoid prison, Sobolev calls upon a colleague for help, but the case turns out to be messy, and when he finally decides to make amends, it's already too late.
