The film "Life Is a Bed of Roses" (1983) weaves three storylines set in the same location, weaving together elements of history, romance, and fantasy. In legendary times, a king's baby son is rescued from death and grows up to slay dragons and bring love and happiness. In 1914, wealthy Count Michel Forbek builds an extravagant castle with the intention of using a potion to erase his guests' discontents and remake them anew, but his plan is disrupted by war and personal tragedy. In the 1980s, the castle has become the Institut Holberg school and conference center, where delegates must navigate their own relationships and conflicting ideologies amidst shifting romantic entanglements.
