Cheerleader Torrance Shipman is a senior at Rancho Carne High School in San Diego, elected team captain after her predecessor's graduation. She must navigate the team's perfect routines being stolen from another team, the East Compton Clovers, leading to conflict and self-doubt. With the help of Missy Pantone, a gymnastics star who joins the squad, Torrance must come up with an original routine if they're to win the American championship honestly, facing rivalries, catty teammates, and her own relationship drama along the way.
