The Barretts of Wimpole Street tells the story of poet Elizabeth Barrett, played by Norma Shearer, who recovers from a crippling illness under her father's watchful eye but finds herself swept off her feet by fellow poet Robert Browning, played by Fredric March. As their romance blossoms, Elizabeth must navigate her controlling father's disapproval and find the courage to follow her heart. With the support of her youngest sister Henrietta, played by Maureen O'Sullivan, Elizabeth takes a stand against her father's oppressive rule, ultimately finding love and independence with Robert Browning.
