In the 2001 comedy film Escanaba in da Moonlight, Reuben Soady (Jeff Daniels) faces a family tradition when he joins his father Albert (Harve Presnell), brother Remnar (Joey Albright), and friend Jimmer Negamanee (Wayne David Parker) at their hunting camp cottage. With the help of his Native American wife Wolf Moon Dance (Kimberly Norris Guerrero), Reuben breaks with tradition, using spiritual remedies to protect himself from evil spirits and attract prey. Ultimately, he's guided by the ghost of his great-grandfather Alphonse Soady (James Porterfield) to shoot a buck sent for him, triumphantly completing the family challenge.
