In this charming pre-Code musical comedy, Count Alfred Renard (Maurice Chevalier) is swept off his feet by Queen Louise of Sylvania (Jeanette MacDonald), and promptly becomes her reluctant trophy husband. Despite his love for the queen, Alfred soon discovers that being a figurehead consort is duller than he imagined, with even everyday tasks like breakfast left to the whims of his wife. The film showcases Ernst Lubitsch's mastery of sound technology and features a range of catchy musical numbers, as Alfred navigates his new life in Sylvania with humor and wit.
