Dorothy Appleby

Biography

Dorothy Appleby was a pioneering American film actress who began her career as an understudy and chorus member in New York City's theater scene. She found steady work in Columbia Pictures' two-reel comedies, often playing supporting roles alongside notable comedians like The Three Stooges. Her petite figure belied her age, allowing her to land "younger" roles throughout the 1940s. Appleby appeared in over 50 films between 1931 and 1943, including Buster Keaton's leading lady parts.
