Hitoshi Ueki was a Japanese actor, comedian, singer, and guitarist born on December 25, 1926, who won six awards for acting. He rose to fame with the comic jazz-band The Crazy Cats led by Hajime Hana and became a household name through various television shows, including The Hangman and Nagoya Yomeiri Monogatari franchise. Ueki's notable film credits include Akira Kurosawa's epic jidaigeki film Ran, and he earned awards for his performances in Big Joys, Small Sorrows.
