Yakov Alexandrovich Protazanov was a Russian and Soviet film director and screenwriter who played a key role in the founding of Russian cinema. A pioneer in the industry, Protazanov's notable works include the 1925 film "Shakhmatnaya goryachka," a chemist drama that showcased his storytelling and direction skills. He was also recognized for his contributions to Russian cinema, receiving Honored Artist titles from the Russian SFSR in 1935 and the Uzbek SSR in 1944.
