Douglas Fairbanks was a renowned American actor and filmmaker known for his swashbuckling roles in silent films like The Thief of Bagdad, Robin Hood, and The Mark of Zorro. A founding member of United Artists and the Motion Picture Academy, he hosted the first Oscars Ceremony in 1929.
