Hoagland Howard Carmichael was a renowned American musician, composer, songwriter, actor, author, and lawyer, best known for crafting some of the most enduring American songs of all time, including "Stardust," "Georgia on My Mind," "The Nearness of You," and "Heart and Soul." A pioneer in using new technologies to share his music, Carmichael was a highly successful Tin Pan Alley songwriter and one of the first singer-songwriters of the mass media era. His collaborations with lyricists like Johnny Mercer resulted in timeless classics like "Lazybones" and "Skylark."
