Josef Somr was a Czech actor born on April 14, 1934, in Vracov, Czechoslovakia. He graduated from the Janáček Academy of Music and Performing Arts in 1956 and began his acting career at regional theatres before joining The Drama Club in Prague. Notable film roles include his Oscar-winning performance as Hubička in Closely Watched Trains (1966) and Ludvík Jahn in The Joke (1969).
