Gerald Rudolph Ford Jr., born Leslie Lynch King Jr. on July 14, 1913, served as the 38th President of the United States from 1974 to 1977. He became Vice-President in 1973 and assumed the presidency after Richard Nixon's resignation, marking the first time a person had held both offices. A member of the Republican Party, Ford previously served in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1949 to 1973.
