Aparna Sen is an Indian filmmaker and actress known for her work in Bengali cinema. A leading actress of the late 1960s and 1970s, she has received numerous awards including eight BFJA Awards and three National Film Awards. She was awarded the Padma Shri, India's fourth highest civilian award, in 1987 for her contribution to arts. Sen has also gained critical acclaim as a director with films like "36 Chowringhee Lane" and "Mr. and Mrs. Iyer".
