Eli Mintz was born Edward Satz on August 1, 1904, in Lemberg, Austrian-Hungary, to a tailor father. A child actor, he made his debut in the Yiddish classic "The Dybbuk" and later immigrated to the United States in 1927 with the intention of pursuing an acting career. He gained recognition for roles in "Stardust Memories" (1980) and "The Proud Rebel" (1958), earning a stage name that distinguished him from his brother Ludwig Satz's career.
