Biography

Friedrich Dürrenmatt was a Swiss author and dramatist who explored epic theatre's dramatic possibilities. Born in Konolfingen, Switzerland, he began writing plays at 22, including the provocative "It Is Written," which premiered to controversy in 1947. His work spanned avant-garde dramas, philosophical crime novels, and macabre satire, reflecting his left-leaning views. Dürrenmatt also painted and lectured on comparative religion.
