Mieko Takamine

Biography

Mieko Takamine was a Japanese actress and singer born to renowned biwa player Chikufu Takamine in 1918. She made her acting debut in the 1936 film Kimi yo takarakani utae and established herself as a "singing movie star" with her first released record for the film Hotaru no hikari (1938). Takamine collaborated with notable directors, including Hiroshi Shimizu, Yasujirō Ozu, and Keisuke Kinoshita, before winning the Best Supporting Actress award at the 19th Blue Ribbon Awards in 1976.
