Toda-ke no kyôdai

The film follows the Toda family as they struggle to cope with the death of their patriarch, Shintarō, who has left them deeply in debt. The eldest son, Shin'ichirō, announces that the family must help pay off the debts, leading to a series of uncomfortable living arrangements and disagreements among the siblings. As the family navigates their difficult situation, Mrs. Toda and her daughter Setsuko, played by Mieko Takamine, face particularly significant challenges in their search for a new home and a sense of belonging.
