Late Spring

The film opens at a tea ceremony. Professor Shukichi Somiya, a widower, has only one child, a twenty-seven-year-old unmarried daughter, Noriko, who takes care of the household and everyday needs of her father. On a shopping trip to Tokyo, Noriko encounters one of her father's friends, Professor Jo Onodera, who lives in Kyoto. Setsuko Hara plays the role of Noriko Somiya, Chishū Ryū portrays her father Shukichi Somiya.
