Biography
Chishū Ryū was a renowned Japanese film actor whose career spanned an impressive 65 years, yielding over 230 productions. He gained widespread recognition for his collaborations with director Yasujirō Ozu on at least 32 films, including the critically acclaimed "Tokyo Story" (1953). Ryū also gained popularity in later decades as the curmudgeonly Buddhist priest in Yoji Yamada's Tora-san series. His performances showcased a nuanced blend of wit and benevolence.
