Tokyo-Ga

In "Tokyo-Ga", Wim Wenders sets out to capture a Tokyo that defies the cinematic myth of its creators, specifically the Japanese New Wave filmmakers who dominated the 1950s and '60s. Instead, he finds a city of neon-lit contradictions, where the gleaming skyscrapers of modernity clash with the faded traditions of the past. Through his lens, Wenders documents the everyday lives of Tokyo's inhabitants, from the soulless pachinko parlors to the eerily lifelike wax food displays, as he searches for a cinematic Ozu that never was – or at least, not in this city.
