Shônenki

A family of Tokyo war evacuees arrives on the outskirts of Suwa, where they are met with hostility by most villagers. The father, an English professor, opposes his son Ichirō's wish to enlist at a military school, while the mother works to provide for the family's income. After Japan's defeat, the commander's son attempts to kill Ichirō, but he is able to fend him off. The ending hints at a more peaceful future for the family.
