Higanbana

Wataru Hirayama (Shin Saburi) is a wealthy Tokyo businessman whose daughter, Kiyoko (Kinuyo Tanaka), is adamant to live her own way and reject an arranged marriage, much to her father's dismay. Her decision sets off a chain of events as her relatives, including her mother and younger sister, try to persuade her to conform to tradition. Despite his initial stubbornness, Hirayama eventually relents and attends his daughter's wedding, only to learn that her friend Fumiko (Yoshiko Kuga) has also chosen her own path.
