Li Tian-Lu

Biography

Li Tien-lu was a Taiwanese puppeteer born in 1910, trained in glove puppetry by his father since age eight. He founded the Almost Like Life troupe in 1932 and revived it after Japan's censorship during WWII. Li's troupe gained popularity under the Kuomintang government and even featured in a TV show in 1962. In the 1970s, he considered retirement as puppetry's popularity waned.
