Karuna Banerjee was a Bengali actress best known for her iconic role as Sarbajaya in Satyajit Ray's The Apu Trilogy (1955–1959), earning a Best Actress nomination at the 1959 BAFTA Awards for her performance in Aparajito. She graduated from Jogamaya Devi College and expanded her acting career over two decades in Bengali cinema and theatre, appearing in notable films such as Calcutta 71 and The Goddess.
