Biography

Zarah Leander was a Swedish singer and actress whose greatest success lay in Nazi Germany between 1936 and 1943, when she was contracted to work for state-owned Universum Film AG (UFA). As a singer, she was known for her confident style and deep contralto voice, earning her the nickname "female baritone." Her involvement with UFA led to some of her films and lyrics being identified as Nazi propaganda.
