Naomi Kawase is a Japanese film director born on May 30, 1969. She graduated from Visual Arts Osaka in 1989 and began her career as a lecturer at the college before releasing her debut film Embracing, which explores her search for her abandoned father. Her work often delves into themes of family history and identity. As the founder of the Nara International Film Festival, she has established herself as a prominent figure in Japanese cinema.
