Monte Hellman
Biography
Monte Hellman was a visionary director, producer, writer, and editor born in New York City to vacationing parents before growing up in Los Angeles. He began his career as an editor's apprentice at ABC TV and made his directorial debut with the horror film "Beast from Haunted Cave" (1959). Hellman gained critical recognition for his Westerns "The Shooting" and "Ride in the Whirlwind" (1966) starring Jack Nicholson, and independent films like "Two-Lane Blacktop" (1971).
