William John "Bill" Cunningham Jr., an American fashion photographer for The New York Times, was born into an Irish Catholic family in Boston on March 13, 1929. He began his career as a stockboy at Bonwit Teller's Boston Store and later transitioned to writing about fashion, capturing candid photographs on the streets of New York City that brought him international attention. His work with The New York Times spanned nearly four decades.
