Michael Alig

Biography

Michael Alig was a founding member and key figure in the Club Kids, a group of young New York City clubgoers who gained cultural significance in the late 1980s and early 1990s. His life took a darker turn when he was convicted of felony manslaughter for his role in the 1996 killing of fellow Club Kid Andre "Angel" Melendez. Alig served 10-20 years in prison before being released on parole in 2014, dying just days later from an accidental overdose at age 54.
