Salvatore Mineo Jr. was a rising star in Hollywood at just 17 when he earned his first Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor for his role as John "Plato" Crawford in Rebel Without a Cause. He went on to win a Golden Globe for his portrayal of Ahad Ha-Shalem in Exodus and starred in notable films like The Longest Day and Escape from the Planet of the Apes. Mineo's family also included several relatives who became actors, tracing back to Sicilian roots.
