Michael Jayston was a renowned English actor born on October 29, 1935, in West Bridgford, Nottingham. He is best known for his roles as Nicholas II of Russia in the film Nicholas and Alexandra (1971) and the Valeyard in all fourteen episodes of the Doctor Who serial The Trial of a Time Lord (1986). Jayston was also a prolific stage actor with notable performances at the Royal Shakespeare Company and on Broadway.
