Nicholas and Alexandra

Tsar Nicholas II of Russia (Michael Jayston) and his wife Alexandra (Janet Suzman) face the tumultuous events of European history as they navigate their royal duties amidst the growing unrest among the Russian people. The film tells the story of the Romanov dynasty from 1904 through the First World War and the Russian Revolution, ultimately leading to the downfall and execution of the royal family. As Nicholas refuses to compromise on his autocratic rule, Alexandra becomes increasingly reliant on the self-proclaimed holy man Grigori Rasputin (Tom Baker), whose influence leads to public mockery and eventual dismissal from the court.
