Sergey Bondarchuk
Biography
Sergei Bondarchuk was a Soviet and Russian actor and filmmaker born in Ukraine in 1920. He directed and acted in numerous epic period dramas, including the acclaimed four-part film adaptation of Leo Tolstoy's War and Peace (1966-67) and the Napoleonic War epic Waterloo (1971). A People's Artist of the USSR and Academy Awards winner, Bondarchuk received international accolades for his work on these films, solidifying his reputation as a master of big-scale pieces.
