She gained recognition for her role as Erna in the 1974 film "Martha" and made a name for herself in the 1960s and 1970s theater scene, particularly in the Off-Theater's Reichskabarett in Berlin. Her unconventional approach to acting led to her being discovered by French director Paul Vasil, who became a mentor to her.
