Sylvia Alice Earle is a renowned American oceanographer and explorer who has made significant contributions to our understanding of the world's oceans. As the first chief scientist of the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, she played a pivotal role in shaping the organization's research priorities. A National Geographic Explorer at Large since 1998, Earle continues to advocate for ocean conservation through her work with Ocean Elders and other initiatives.
