Jean Martin

Biography

Jean Martin was a French actor who originated two roles in Samuel Beckett's most famous plays, Lucky in "Waiting for Godot" and Clov in "Endgame". He appeared in over eighty films and television appearances, including "The Battle of Algiers", where he played the role of Colonel Mathieu, and "My Name is Nobody" as the gunslinger Sullivan. Martin was also known for his stage performances with the Théâtre National Populaire, where he gained recognition for his left-wing politics. He died in Paris on February 2, 2009.
