Biography

Mona Hammond was a Jamaican-British actress and co-founder of the Talawa Theatre Company, born Mavis Chin in Jamaica on January 1, 1931. She immigrated to the UK in 1959 and went on to have a distinguished stage career, best known for her work on British television, including iconic roles in EastEnders and Desmond's. Hammond was awarded an OBE in 2005 and received the Women of the World Lifetime Achievement Award in 2018.
