Biography

Pierre Étaix was a French comedian and filmmaker born in Roanne, France in 1928. He made a series of short- and feature-length films, many co-written with Jean-Claude Carrière, including the Oscar-winning live-action short film in 1963. Étaix collaborated with notable directors Jacques Tati, Robert Bresson, Nagisa Oshima, and Jerry Lewis, among others. His work was largely unavailable due to a legal dispute until its release in 2009.
